Ulster’s Jamie teams up with screen legend for TV drama
Ulster-born Calvin Klein model and actor Jamie Dornan is to star in a new movie alongside legendary British actress Jean Simmons. The Belfast man plays opposite the Hollywood actress in The Wreck – which is set in a remote house on the Norfolk coast in the 1960s. Jamie (25) plays Joe, who strikes up a friendship with Simmons’ character Hannah, bringing her cannabis to ease the pain she suffers from her long illness. When her son Robert visits, he is shocked by Hannah’s intimacy with Joe and is deeply suspicious of his motives.
Now in his second major movie role, Jamie worked with the Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola. It is understood Simmons (78) was cast by writer and director David Rocksavage for the role. The actress has starred in numerous films and has played opposite Laurence Olivier, Richard Burton, Marlon Brando and Gregory Peck as well as matinee idol Stewart Granger, whom she married in 1950. Her acting credits include two Oscar nominations, although she is probably best known for her roles as Estella in Great Expectations and Varinia, the slave girl in Spartacus.
Filming has already got under way at locations in Norfolk and locals have been invited to play extras.
Dornan is also a musician, playing in the folk band, Sons of Jim, with fellow Belfast man David Alexander. Considered one of the top male models in the world, he dated actress Keira Knightley for two years and has also been linked with Mischa Barton, Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Despite being a successful model, Dornan has always been keen to become an actor. Last year he got his big break when he landed his role in Sofia Coppola’s movie Marie Antoinette.
